LIVING WITH CHUCKY

Living with Chucky feels like a celebration of a horror icon, which is fair enough because Chucky deserves that kind of love however, this is very much a surface level documentary that mainly acts as a recap of the films. If you're looking for something a bit more in-depth based around the franchise, you won't find it here.
We all know the films so recapping them to the extent they do feels a bit pointless. You could just watch the films again, which this actually made me want to do so I will give it credit for that. The interviews with the various cast and crew members of the franchise, as well as actors from other franchises, provide entertaining insight into what the franchise means to them, both as viewers and direct participants.
It isn't until the final moments of Living with Chucky where it starts to feel as if it's trying to do something different other than just recap the films for us. Kyra Elise Gardner grew up with Chucky playing a large part in her life, her father being in the crew working on the films, and the reflection she has on how the experience shaped her life and future career as a filmmaker is one of the more endearing moments of this entire film. Likewise with Brad and Fiona Dourif, a father-daughter duo who have had varying degrees of experience within the franchise, as they discuss what the passing of the torch within the franchise felt like.

Living with Chucky is a fun hour and a half to spend reminiscing about an iconic horror franchise that may not delve too far into behind the scenes elements of it all however, what it does do is show just how much of an impact the character of Chucky has had on those who have been close to him over the years. I need to get on watching the recent show after watching this.

Verdict:

Living With Chucky will be available to own or rent in the UK & Ireland from April 24 via Amazon, AppleTV, Sky Store, Virgin Media and Google Play. Also available on Blu-ray.
